Agartala, May 4, 2025: In a significant development for Tripura’s transportation and trade sector, the Parcel Cargo Express train commenced its maiden journey from Agartala Railway Station on Sunday. The service aims to provide an efficient mode of transporting goods from Agartala to major commercial hubs across India, including Kolkata, Guwahati, and Delhi.
This initiative, launched under the Indian Railways’ *Gati Shakti* mission, seeks to enhance cargo transportation speed and efficiency while strengthening the Northeast’s connectivity with the rest of the country. The train is expected to facilitate the creation of logistics hubs and boost Tripura’s export potential, benefiting local farmers and small entrepreneurs.
Railway authorities have indicated that if demand increases, plans are in place to expand the train’s route and frequency. The service is anticipated to significantly improve the market reach of Tripura’s fresh produce, bamboo-based products, and cottage industry items—many of which previously faced challenges in reaching suitable markets.
With this new development, producers in the state are optimistic about increased profits and broader business opportunities. The initiative marks a step forward in improving trade accessibility and economic growth in the region.
