Agartala, May 3: The Sadar District Congress launched a strong protest today, alleging widespread corruption and systemic collapse in the state’s healthcare sector under the BJP-led government. Party workers and supporters took out a procession through the city, culminating in the submission of a deputation to the Director of the Health Department, demanding the resignation of the Chief Minister and the Health Minister.
Addressing journalists during the demonstration, a senior Congress leader criticized the current state of healthcare in Tripura, claiming that it has deteriorated to its worst under the BJP regime. He alleged that the system has “completely collapsed” and argued that the state cannot be effectively managed by a dental surgeon—a reference to the current Health Minister.
The Congress leader also accused the government of overseeing corruption in medical recruitment and examination processes, stating that irregularities are rampant. He further highlighted the poor condition of GB Hospital, which, according to him, receives constant complaints due to substandard service and neglect. “Patients are dying every day for lack of proper treatment,” he claimed.
He pointed out recent incidents that exemplify the decay in hospital infrastructure, such as a ceiling fan falling on a patient just days ago. The party also raised concerns about the acute shortage of doctors, nurses, and support staff in public hospitals across the state.
The Sadar District Congress emphasized that hospitals have become hazardous rather than healing spaces, and the administration has failed to address the crisis despite repeated appeals. The protest was a call to action for the government to take immediate steps to restore public healthcare or step aside.
The Congress party has vowed to intensify its agitation if urgent reforms are not initiated.
