Agartala, April 30: Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha has urged unemployed candidates preparing for the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) not to resort to street protests, stating that demonstrations do not guarantee jobs. Speaking at a job appointment ceremony held at Nazrul Kalakshetra on Wednesday, the Chief Minister emphasized that the state government is already employment-friendly and committed to transparent recruitment.
At the event, appointment letters were handed over to 228 newly recruited individuals under the Education Department. Among them, 66 were appointed as undergraduate teachers and 162 as graduate teachers. Dr. Saha inaugurated the ceremony by lighting a traditional lamp and highlighted the government’s achievements in filling vacancies. He stated that 17,554 individuals have received government jobs through direct recruitment since the current administration took office.
Referring to employment data, the Chief Minister noted a significant drop in the state’s unemployment rate. In the 2018–19 fiscal year, Tripura had an unemployment rate of 10% compared to the national average of 5.8%. By 2023–24, this figure had fallen to just 1.7%, well below the national average of 3.2%. Dr. Saha credited this improvement to increased job creation and a transparent recruitment process.
The Chief Minister also mentioned that more than 5,700 contractual positions have been created in recent years. Additionally, over 2,900 individuals have been employed as security personnel in both government and private sectors, and 1,600 people have been recruited through the Tripura Industrial Development Corporation over the past three years.
To further support job seekers, three model career centers have been established in Agartala, Dharmanagar, and Kailashahar under the National Service Project, where regular job fairs are being conducted.
