Agartala: May 04: Opposition leader Jitendra Choudhury has sharply criticized the state government for failing to address the pressing issue of unemployment despite the existence of over 50,000 vacancies in various government departments. Speaking to journalists on Sunday, Choudhury accused the government of taking inadequate steps and described its recruitment efforts as “sprinkling water in a desert,” attempting to mask the gravity of the situation.
Choudhury revealed that CPI(M) office workers conducted a detailed assessment of vacancies across several departments and identified at least 50,000 unfilled posts. “If all government departments are considered, the actual number could be even higher,” he warned, expressing deep concern over the growing employment crisis.
The opposition leader also raised serious questions regarding the transparency and integrity of the state’s recruitment process. Referring to the recent hiring in Group D categories, Choudhury alleged that several candidates from West Bengal and Assam have managed to secure government jobs in Tripura using fake Permanent Resident of Tripura Certificates (PRTC). “Youths from other states are grabbing job opportunities meant for Tripura residents, while the government watches silently,” he said.
He accused the ruling party of ignoring the plight of the local youth and using false assurances to maintain a façade of action. “The truth cannot be concealed with empty promises,” Choudhury asserted, warning that frustration is mounting among the state's unemployed youth.
Choudhury’s remarks come amid growing public discontent over the lack of job opportunities and rising unemployment in the state. He called on the government to adopt a transparent and robust recruitment strategy to fill vacancies and prioritize employment for the youth of Tripura.
