Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation, Dipak Majumder, on Friday laid emphasis on the deep historical connection between Rabindranath Tagore and the Manikya dynasty of Tripura. Speaking at the ‘Kabi Pranab’ event hosted by the Government of Tripura at Rabindra Kanan, Majumder expressed pride over the longstanding bond between the Nobel laureate and the royal family of the state.Majumder noted that long before Rabindranath Tagore’s literary genius gained international acclaim, the royal family of Tripura recognised his talent and supported his work. He said that for over four decades, Tagore maintained a close relationship with Tripura, during which time he created several notable works. “Many of his compositions came to life during his visits to our culturally and historically rich state,” he added.Referring to Tagore’s enduring legacy, Majumder said his ideals and philosophy continue to live on in the hearts and minds of Bengalis. “When the entire country was under British rule, it was Tagore who inspired Indians to dream of self-governance. He was a visionary, a thinker, and a philosopher far ahead of his time,” he remarked.Majumder also acknowledged the efforts of various literary organisations in preserving and promoting the teachings and values of Tagore in contemporary society. He said that such efforts are vital in keeping the poet’s legacy alive for future generations.Senior officials of the Information and Cultural Affairs Department attended the colourful event featuring vibrant cultural performances by the artists of different age groups. Similar events had been organised across the state to commemorate Kabiguru Rabindranath Tagore and his literary contributions on the occasion of his 164th birth anniversary
