Tribal girl gang raped in Belonia, six arrested

A 15-year old girl of a remote area was gang raped by seven youth in a jungle at Manduriya in South Tripura’s Belonia, police said on Tuesday.Six out of seven accused were arrested soon after lodging complaint with Belonia Women’s police station and forwarded before a local court on Tuesday seeking police remand.The minor girl, a resident of Tillapara under Santir Bazar police station, went out with her friend to attend a village fair in Belonia on May 9.“On the way, the girl was stopped at Manduriya under Belonia police station and forced her to go a jungle where her friend along with six others raped her. Later, the girl was taken to the residence of one of the accused for night stay”, Officer in Charge (OC), Belonia Women’s police station, Swapna Bhowmik said.She said the victim made a call to her parents about her ordeal the following morning.   “On May 10, her parents rushed to Manduriya and took their daughter home. Later, the victim’s mother lodged a complaint alleging that her girl was gang raped by seven persons. After receiving the complaint, police launched a massive operation and arrested six accused persons on Monday (May 12) and all of them sent to a local court seeking police remand. One more rapist is absconding”, the OC said.The OC added, the police have begun investigation into the gang rape case and the victim is stable.
