Tripura CM: No Entry for Illegal Immigrants from Bangladesh

Agartala, May 21: Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Wednesday reaffirmed the state government’s firm stance against illegal immigration, declaring that no illegal immigrant from Bangladesh or Myanmar will be allowed to enter the state under any circumstances.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a government programme at Pragna Bhavan in Agartala, where appointment letters were distributed to newly appointed Inspectors of Food, Dr. Saha made it clear that any individual found entering Tripura illegally would be pushbacked as per legal procedures.
“We are very clear on this. No Bangladeshi or Rohingya will be allowed to enter Tripura. If anyone does manage to infiltrate, they will be pushbacked in accordance with the law,” the Chief Minister stated.
His remarks come in response to a recent directive from the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), which has asked all states and Union Territories to invoke their statutory powers to verify the nationality and credentials of suspected illegal immigrants claiming to be Indian citizens. The directive sets a 30-day deadline for action, including deportation if the individuals are found ineligible.
Tripura, with its 856-kilometre-long international border with Bangladesh, remains particularly vulnerable to cross-border migration. The government has maintained a strong focus on border security, and Dr. Saha’s latest comments reaffirm the administration’s commitment to preventing any breach of national and state integrity.
The Chief Minister's assertion reflects the state's alignment with the Centre's broader immigration policy and its emphasis on legal accountability and national security. The Tripura government continues to coordinate with central agencies to monitor and manage sensitive border zones to prevent illegal infiltration.
