A Bangladeshi citizen and an Indian broker were apprehended by Sabroom police and personnel of the 114 Battalion of the Border Security Force (BSF) while attempting to illegally cross into India through the Indo-Bangladesh border in Tripura. A formal case has been registered against both individuals, and police have launched an investigation.According to reports, based on secret intelligence, the arrest took place late at night on May 19 near the Anand Para Nazrul Park area of Sabroom, a known transit point along the India-Bangladesh border. The detained individuals were trying to enter Indian territory through illegal means when law enforcement officials intercepted them. The two detainees were identified as Rubel Chandra Das, a resident of Feni district in Bangladesh, and Dulal Das, a resident of Purbasthali in the Purba Bardhaman district of West Bengal, India.Authorities stated that both individuals had crossed into India via Ramgarh Upazila of Khagrachari district in Bangladesh and were heading toward Sabroom when they were caught. Preliminary investigations suggest that Dulal Das was operating as a broker, facilitating the illegal entry of Bangladeshi nationals into India.Following their arrest, the duo was taken into custody and a case was filed under relevant legal provisions concerning illegal immigration and cross-border movement. The Sabroom police have begun a detailed investigation to trace any larger network or organized group involved in such activities. This incident once again highlights the ongoing challenges faced by security forces in guarding the porous Indo-Bangladesh border. Officials have stepped up vigilance in sensitive areas, especially in and around Sabroom, to curb illegal infiltration and human trafficking.Further interrogation of the detainees is underway.
