Woman Gives Birth on Train; Mother, Newborn Rescued in Dharmanagar

Agartala: May 22: In a heartwarming incident that unfolded aboard the Kanchenjunga Express, a pregnant woman gave birth to a healthy baby boy while traveling from Sabroom to Sealdah. The woman, identified as Katki Nagasia from Ranchi, went into labor during the journey. Quick thinking and immediate action by the Dharmanagar Government Railway Police Station (GRPS) ensured the safety of both the mother and her newborn.
As soon as the GRPS received information about the childbirth, officers acted swiftly and arranged for the train to halt at Dharmanagar Railway Station. Upon arrival, the GRPS team rescued the mother and her baby and immediately contacted medical authorities.
Doctors and nurses from Dharmanagar Railway Hospital arrived at the station shortly after and conducted a thorough medical examination of the mother and child. Both were confirmed to be in good health. Following standard medical protocol, the hospital staff informed Dharmanagar District Hospital, which promptly dispatched an ambulance to the railway station. The mother and newborn were safely transported to the district hospital, where they are currently receiving further medical care.
Speaking to the media, PRPS Office In-Charge Uttam Kumar Kalai emphasized the importance of timely coordination and swift action. He said the police and medical teams worked efficiently to ensure the well-being of the passengers involved. He also confirmed that both mother and child are doing well.
The father, identified as Katka Nagashia, was also on board during the incident. The couple hails from Ranchi and was reportedly en route to visit relatives when the unexpected delivery took place.
The incident has drawn praise for the quick response and cooperation between railway authorities, police, and medical staff, turning a potentially risky situation into a successful rescue.
