Transport Minister urges Vaisnaw to introduce regular train service in Agartala-Kolkata via Dhaka

Tripura Transport Minister Sushant Chowdhury has urged Railways Minister Ashwani Vaisnaw to introduce regular passengers and goods train from Agartala to Kolkata via Dhaka and Agartala to Chittagong through newly inaugurated railway track between Agartala and Akhaura (Bangladesh).Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Bangladesh counterpart Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the newly built Agartala-Akhaura railway link virtually on November1, last year. However, train service between Agartala and Akhaura link has not been introduced till now.“Under your stewardship, we have witnessed significant strides in enhancing the efficiency, safety and reach our railway network. I request to you for introduction of passenger and goods train service Agartala to Kolkata via Dhaka and Agartala to Chittagong through the newly inaugurated railway track between Agartala and Akhaura (Bangladesh)”, he wrote in a letter to the Railways Minister on Thursday.He also demanded revival of railway links between Belonia (South Tripura) and Feni in Bangladesh. The Belonia-Feni railway network is among the 14 new railway connectivity routes in the Northeastern region; the Railway Board has recently sanctioned Final Location Survey (FLS) to strengthen connectivity and strengthen Chicken-neck.
