Vision Plus Electricity Workers Demand Pending Wages, End to Outsourcing

Agartala, May 29: Electricity workers under Vision Plus, a subsidiary of Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL), have once again raised their voices in protest, demanding fulfillment of four major demands, including the payment of pending wages and the abolition of the outsourcing system. The workers also submitted a deputation to the Director of the Electricity Board today.
A worker stated that nearly 600 employees have been serving in various positions under Vision Plus for the past five years. At the time of recruitment, the electricity department had assured them of annual salary increments. However, even after five years, there has been no increase in their pay, forcing them to manage household expenses on minimum wages.
Their situation has worsened in recent months, with salaries not being disbursed for the past six months. When employees approached Vision Plus officials regarding the delay, they were reportedly informed that the electricity department itself had not released the pending dues. This has led to growing frustration among workers, compelling them to take their grievances directly to the department.
The workers’ primary demands include:
-
Immediate payment of pending salaries
-
Abolition of the outsourcing system
-
Direct recruitment under the electricity department
-
Inclusion under labor laws to ensure proper and timely salary payments
The protesting workers emphasized that they are not only fighting for their rights but also seeking job security and dignity. They have urged the state government and the electricity department to take swift action to address their grievances.
This development underscores the challenges faced by contract workers in essential services and calls into question the long-term viability of outsourcing in critical public sectors.
