AAI initiates process to revive Kailashahar airport

The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has initiated a process to revive the now defunct Kailashahar airport in Tripura’s Unakoti district, said an official on Tuesday.Following a request from the state government for revival of the airport, Regional Executive Director, AAI, Northeast, M. Raju Krishore accompanied by Director of MBB Airport (Agartala) , K C Meena on Monday visited Kailashahar airport to take stock of the ground situation.“Following state government’s request and the Civil Aviation Ministry’s instruction, Regional Executive Director, AAI, Northeast, M. Raju Krishore visited Kailashahar airport on Monday to see the infrastructure, land availability and visibility condition”, (K.C.) Meena said.Kailashahar airport, strategically located in Unakoti district remains defunct for over 30 years. The airport played a key role during the Indo-Pak war in 1971 as the Indian Air Force carried out covert missions and surveillance.
