Tension in Chandrapur after toddler’s accidental death, security tightened

Tension simmered at Srilanka Basti, a slum area located in the outskirts of Agartala city on Tuesday after mortal remains of a three-year old toddler who died in a tragic incident was brought back home. The last rites of the child have been later performed at the Municipal Crematorium, Agartala.Large number of Tripura State Rifles and Police troopers had been deployed in the area in apprehension of communal flare up as there were prior indications of the same, officials said. According to local sources, earlier on Monday, a speeding motorcycle ran over the child identified as Abir Das. The motorcycle rider was identified as Ujjwal Miah, a resident of South Chandrapur.the accused was arrested within 24 hours of the incident.Eyewitnesses alleged that had the accused taken proper care, the death of an innocent child could have been avoided. “As he dashed the child, he could have stopped. Had he stopped, the life of the baby could have been saved. But, he decided otherwise and fled away,” said an eyewitness.The baby was shifted to GB Pant hospital where the doctors declared him brought dead. After the post mortem, the mortal remains were brought back to the locality.
