West Tripura Holds Awareness and Training Camp on Drowning Prevention

Agartala: June 28: Today, a district-level awareness and training camp focused on drowning prevention took place at the conference hall of the West Tripura District Collector’s Office. The event was inaugurated by District Collector and DM Dr. Vishal Kumar.

Organized by the West Tripura District Disaster Management Authority, the camp saw the participation of Additional District Collector Sajal Biswas, Branch Officer of Disaster Management Kshirod Debbarma, District Program Officer Pinki Pal, Inspector RK Mina of NDRF 1st Battalion, Inspector Mandeep Malik, Inspector Ajit Kumar, as well as secretaries from various wards of Agartala Municipal Corporation and representatives from clubs and voluntary organizations.

During the inauguration, West Tripura District Collector Dr. Vishal Kumar highlighted the importance of raising awareness about drowning prevention. This year, 8 people have already drowned in the state, with 3 of those cases occurring in West Tripura district. Efforts are underway to reduce this number to zero within the district. June has been designated as Drowning Prevention Month.

Dr. Vishal Kumar expressed hope that the NDRF, local clubs, social organizations, and ward secretaries of Agartala Municipal Corporation would effectively convey this message to the public. He also mentioned that government assistance is available under specific rules in case of drowning-related fatalities or injuries.

The training camp included a presentation by NDRF Inspector RK Mina, who shared data on drowning deaths in Tripura, other states, and other countries. He emphasized the importance of learning swimming and being vigilant about water safety.

Following the camp, NDRF jawans and volunteers, led by Inspector RK Mina, participated in a mock drill focused on rescue, prevention, and relief efforts in case of drowning incidents at Durga Bari Dighi. Officials from the West Tripura District Administration, along with common citizens and trainees, were present.
