Chief Minister Inaugurates ‘Mayer Gomon-2024’ Program

Agartala: Oct 14: Chief Minister Professor (Dr.) Manik Saha inaugurated the ‘Mayer Gomon-2024’ program today in front of Maharani Tulsibati Girls’ School, emphasizing the growing unity and harmony among the state’s diverse castes and tribes during Durga Puja. He highlighted the state government’s commitment to fostering a ‘Greater Tripura’ based on these principles.

The ‘Mayer Gomon’ program, organized by the Department of Information and Culture, continues a tradition dating back to the Maharani’s reign, where a decorated procession was held for idol immersion. This year, various city clubs have been invited to participate, with arrangements made to ensure a smooth event. The Chief Minister praised the modernization of Dashamghat by the Agartala Municipal Corporation, facilitating orderly idol immersion, and thanked the Mayor and municipal employees for their efforts.

Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation Deepak Majumder noted the enthusiastic response to the ‘Mayer Gomon’ program over the past two years, attributing the successful and incident-free organization of Durga Puja to the state government’s efforts. Secretary of the Department of Information and Culture Dr. Pradip Kumar Chakraborty mentioned that the program, initiated in 2022, will see participation from 45 city clubs this year. Awards will be given to clubs excelling in various categories, with prizes of Rs. 50,000, Rs. 30,000, and Rs. 20,000 for the top three clubs, respectively. Additional awards will recognize the best puja organizers at the district level.

The inaugural ceremony was attended by Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma, Chairman of West Tripura Zilla Parishad Balai Goswami, District Magistrate of West Tripura Dr. Vishal Kumar, Director General of State Police Amitabh Ranjan, and Director of the Department of Information and Culture Bimbisar Bhattacharya, among others.
