Agartala: Nov 16: Opposition Leader Jitendra Chowdhury has come down hard on the ruling BJP in Tripura, accusing them of losing touch with the people and trying to divert attention by creating divisions throughout the state. At a press conference today, Chowdhury claimed the BJP is conspiring to fuel division and unrest to mask its dwindling popularity ¹.

He highlighted the worsening law and order situation in northern Tripura, particularly in Kadamtala market, where a clash between two groups over extortion left local traders severely affected. The opposition is now demanding financial compensation for the affected traders from Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha.

Chowdhury also criticized the state government for escalating tensions in different regions, specifically sowing distrust among communities in northern Tripura. He pointed out that the Kadamtala market incident, sparked by a minor extortion dispute, escalated into a violent conflict resulting in one death and three injuries due to police firing.

The CPM has formally submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, demanding financial aid for the affected traders. This development comes after a delegation from the CPM, including former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar and senior CPM leaders, visited Kadamtala market on November 8 to assess the damage.

It's worth noting that this isn't the first time the BJP has faced criticism in Tripura. In the past, there have been reports of internal dissent and opposition to Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb's leadership ². However, the BJP central leadership has taken steps to address these issues and maintain party discipline.
