Agartala: Nov 17: On Sunday, Opposition Leader of the Tripura Legislative Assembly, Jitendra Choudhury, visited the South Ramnagar Gol Chakkar area in Agartala, accompanied by CPI(M) legislators. During the visit, he interacted with the affected families in the area.

Recently, the government had evicted people who had been residing on government land in the South Ramnagar Gol Chakkar area for decades. Their homes were demolished using bulldozers, and the families were left homeless without any provisions for rehabilitation. Many of these families, who had been living there for 40-50 years with legal documents, are now struggling to survive under the open sky.

Choudhury, speaking to the media, expressed his concern after hearing the plight of the residents. He stated that these people had been living lawfully on the land for decades, and suddenly, with just a 15-20 day notice, they were evicted in an inhumane manner. He also criticized the government's actions, citing that the process of evicting people by bulldozer was a violation of the Supreme Court's ruling. Choudhury emphasized that the officials responsible for leading the demolition should be held accountable for disregarding the law.

The affected residents handed over a memorandum to Choudhury, outlining two key demands: the construction of homes on government land for rehabilitation and guaranteed livelihood opportunities. The Opposition Leader assured that he would bring the issue to the attention of the Chief Minister and the Mayor of Ramnagar, Deepak Majumdar, and will seek a resolution for the affected families.
