Agartala: Jan 14: A youth from Tripura, identified as Debashis Sutradhar, has been arrested for attempting to blackmail a young woman in West Bengal. Debashis, who hails from the Vivekananda Palli area in Bisramganj, allegedly targeted the woman for an extended period, attempting to extort money or other benefits through threats.
The victim, distressed by the persistent harassment, lodged a formal complaint with the police in West Bengal. Acting on the complaint, the West Bengal police tracked down the accused and coordinated with their Tripura counterparts for his arrest. On Monday evening, a team from West Bengal traveled to Bisramganj, where they worked in collaboration with the local police to apprehend Debashis Sutradhar. The arrest took place in a local market area, with the authorities taking him into custody without incident.
The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the Bisramganj police station confirmed the arrest and mentioned that Debashis would be transferred to West Bengal for further questioning. The police are investigating the full extent of his actions and any potential accomplices involved in the blackmail scheme.
This arrest has raised concerns about cybercrimes and online harassment, as such cases of blackmail, often facilitated through digital platforms, have been on the rise. Authorities have reassured the public that they are committed to ensuring the safety of individuals and taking swift action against those involved in such criminal activities.
