Agartala: April 03: On Thursday, the Kailashahar police detained two individuals identified as Rohingya refugees, based on confidential information. Officer-in-Charge Sukanta Sen Chowdhury confirmed that the two had illegally crossed the international border from Bangladesh into Kailashahar. They had boarded an autorickshaw with the intention of traveling out of the state.
The police, acting on a tip-off, intercepted the autorickshaw near the college area in Kailashahar town, as it was en route to Dharmanagar. A search was conducted, leading to the discovery of the two Rohingya individuals. The police promptly detained them and initiated legal proceedings.
A case has been filed against the detainees under the Passport Act, specifically for illegal border crossing. The authorities are now investigating how they managed to enter the region and whether they had any network facilitating their movement.
This incident highlights ongoing concerns over the illegal movement of Rohingya refugees across the India-Bangladesh border. The police are continuing their investigation into the matter and are taking steps to ensure such unauthorized entries are prevented in the future.
