One-Day Farmers' Training and Input Distribution Programme Held in Amarpur to Promote Onion Seed Production for Self-Sufficiency in Tripura

A one-day Farmers’ Training and Input Distribution Programme was successfully conducted on November 7, 2024, at Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Amarpur, in the Gomati district of Tripura. The event, organized by the College of Agriculture, Tripura, in collaboration with NABARD’s Tripura Regional Office and BAPCL, Bagma, focused on advancing onion seed production under the NABARD-sponsored project, “Seed Production of Onion - A New Approach towards Self-Sufficiency in Tripura.”The training programme was graced by several distinguished guests, including  Ranadhir Sharma, In-charge and Head of KVK, Amarpur; Dr. Tridip Bhattacharjee, Assistant Professor at the College of Agriculture, Tripura and Principal Investigator of the project; Md. Farukul Islam, CEO of BAPCL, Bagma; Dr. Durga Prasad Awasthi, Assistant Professor at the College of Agriculture, Tripura; and Dr. Dharmendra Debbarma, also an Assistant Professor at the College of Agriculture, Tripura.In his welcome address,  Ranadhir Sharma extended a warm greeting to the attendees and encouraged farmers to make the most of the training. Highlighting the efforts in onion cultivation, he shared that over 1,000 farmers in Tripura are currently involved in year-round onion farming, supported by NABARD and guided by the College of Agriculture, Tripura. The training programme witnessed the participation of 35 progressive male and female farmers from Gomati district, which also showcased their harvested produce to the dignitaries present.Farmers expressed their satisfaction with the yields they are achieving under this initiative, showing enthusiasm for further advancing local onion production.The session concluded with a vote of thanks by Ranadhir Sharma, who appreciated the dedication of all involved in making the event a success and encouraged continued collaboration toward self-sufficiency in onion production in Tripura
