Agartala: Nov 14: A two-day national workshop on "Philosophical Foundations of Language, Literature, and Culture in North East India" was organized by the Department of English, Maharaja Bir Bikram University, on Thursday. The event took place at the university's academic hall, with Rajya Sabha MP Rajib Bhattacharjee gracing the occasion. Also present were Professor Satyadeo Poddar from the university, along with other distinguished guests.
In his address, MP Rajib Bhattacharjee emphasized the need for unity in the North East, as the region's culture and traditions are facing growing threats. He remarked that these efforts to undermine the region’s heritage have been ongoing for a long time, making such events highly relevant in countering those challenges. He further stated that preserving culture is key to societal transformation, aligning with the current government’s vision for change. He also highlighted Manipuri literature as one of the oldest literary traditions in the region, stressing the importance of safeguarding it for future generations.
Bhattacharjee advised the students that while foreign cultures are not inherently negative, it is essential to first follow and protect one’s own regional culture. He urged them to take responsibility for preserving their cultural heritage. The event was well-attended by students and scholars alike, marking a significant step in promoting cultural awareness and unity in the region.
