All Tripura colleges to get free Wi-Fi services by December

All General Degree Colleges of Tripura will get free Wi-Fi services for the students by December this year, Finance and IT Minister Pranajit Singha Roy has said on Monday.Singha Roy made the announcement after formally launching Wi-Fi services for as many as 19 colleges across the state.“The total number of students who are undergoing different undergraduate courses in all the thirty general degree colleges of the state is around one lakh. In the 19 colleges where we have started the free wireless fidelity services, more than 50,000 students are enrolled. The Information Technology department in collaboration with the Higher Education department has decided to cover all colleges with free Wi-Fi services by the end of this year,” the Minister told a gathering of college students at Udaipur Netaji Subhas Mahavidyalaya.Stating that access to the internet brings the whole world at someone’s fingertips, the minister said, “Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the whole country is undergoing a digital transformation. Despite being a small state, we have successfully implemented the e-office scheme till the village committee and Panchayat level. And, today, if the Chief Minister wants, he can connect with the whole administration at one go.” The Minister also stated that the state government was considering releasing smartphone grants worth Rs 5,000 to the students of undergraduate level.
