The CPI(M) is set to organise a  protest rally against the misgovernance of the BJP led coalition government in Tripura on October 3.Earlier, the Congress had gheraoed the office of Director General of Police (DGP) to protest against the deteriorating law and order situation in the northeastern state. While addressing a press conference, CPI(M) state secretary, Jitendra Chaudhury claimed the law and order situation has deteriorated in the entire state with the police failing to perform their duties.“The atrocities on women have crossed all limits as the small state records 215 such cases in a month and 52 in a week. A number of mob lyching cases were reported while communal clashes erupted in Gandacherra and communal tension prevailed in West Tripura’s Ranirbazar”, he said.Claiming that the people are facing economic distress after the devastating flood, Chaudhury said the CPI(M) had demanded the state be declared as a national disaster affected state to lend helping hand to the thousands of poor and farmers.“If the state was to declare as national disaster affected areas, mandays under the national flagship programme MGNREGA could be more than one hundred days. Currently, job card holders are getting only 40/50 mandays in a year leading to financial distress in rural areas”, he said.
