Agartala: Mar 26: The protest by Left legislators at the Tripura Assembly premises was sparked by allegations that Speaker Bishwabandhu Sen had abused his power to shield Parliamentary Minister Ratan Lal Nath from accountability. Opposition leader Jitendra Choudhury claimed that the Speaker failed to respond to a breach of privilege motion filed against Minister Nath, who had made controversial remarks related to identity .

Choudhury accused the Speaker of protecting the minister and undermining democratic principles, as well as suppressing opposition voices in the assembly. The opposition's decision to boycott the session was seen as a strong message against the alleged attack on the integrity of the legislative process.

The controversy has highlighted the growing tension between the ruling BJP and the opposition in Tripura. Choudhury condemned the ruling party for "murdering democracy" in the assembly and creating a "tainted chapter" in the current budget session .
