State’s overall conviction rate stands at 30 percent, says new DGP

Newly appointed Director General of Tripura Police Anurag Dhankar on Sunday revealed that the overall conviction rate stood at 30 percent. Interacting with the media persons at the SP office of Unakoti district, the top cop said, “The overall conviction rate in Tripura is 30 percent. It is a positive indicator for the overall policing system.”The DGP on Sunday conducted visits to multiple districts and chaired meetings with officials of his department. He chaired the first meeting at the office of SP Unakoti district and the second meeting was held at the SP office of North Tripura.Hailing the police unit of Unakoti district, he said, “The Unakoti district saw a sharp decline in crime rate. This district alone recorded a sharp decline of 44 percent in recent times. We want to further improve the law and order situation across the state.”Stating that he didn’t visit the districts for the first time, he said, “As Additional Director General of Police, I had visited the districts as I used to hold the charge of law and order and intelligence. These meetings are being conducted to finalise an action plan for the future.”Requesting cooperation from the public, the DGP said, “We want to improve the police public relationship for a cohesive effort against crime. The Chief Minister has a dream of making Tripura drug free, we shall also take concerted steps to get rid of the drug menace.” During the meetings, OCs, SDPOs, ASPs and SPs of both the districts were present. The DGP also visited the headquarters of 13th Battalion of Tripura State Rifles located at Kanchanpur.
