Agartala: Mar 26: In the 2024-25 fiscal year, inmates in Tripura generated ₹2.78 lakh in revenue through agricultural and other material production. While this is lower than the previous year, it is ₹45,000 higher than the 2022-23 fiscal year. This data was disclosed during the budget session of the Tripura Assembly. The report showed that inmates have consistently contributed to the state's revenue over the past three years, with earnings of ₹2,31,561.50 in 2022-23, rising to ₹3,22,114 in 2023-24 before slightly decreasing to ₹2,78,108 in 2024-25. The revenue is deposited under the "Head of Account" in the government's treasury. Additionally, while no inmates passed secondary or higher-level exams in 2022 and 2023, an inmate from Gandachara Sub-Divisional Jail passed the secondary examination in 2024, marking a notable achievement in prisoner rehabilitation.

In August 2024, heavy rainfall and floods caused severe damage to Tripura's agriculture sector. Official records show that 2,05,578 farmers were affected, and financial assistance of ₹29.46 crore was provided. Of this, ₹20 crore was distributed among 1,60,229 farmers, while ₹9.46 crore went to 45,349 horticulturalists and other farmers. In Khowai district, 6,231 hectares of land were submerged, significantly impacting local farmers. Similarly, the Rishyamukh and Padmabil blocks lost 3,787 and 429 hectares of crops, respectively. Farmers in Rishyamukh received ₹1,000 each for Kharif crops through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) and winter vegetable seeds, while those in Padmabil received similar assistance along with ₹2,880 per kani for land clearing.

Furthermore, Jhum cultivators in Tripura suffered significant losses due to excessive rainfall, with 1,079.44 hectares of crops damaged. The government has announced additional aid under the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF). Starting from the 2025-26 fiscal year, the government plans to extend insurance coverage to potato and watermelon farmers for greater livelihood security.
