Tripura University has come under scrutiny following allegations of corruption regarding the recently published seniority list of professors at the academic level fourteen. Reports suggest that several professors were promoted despite not meeting the essential criteria mandated by the University Grants Commission (UGC).According to UGC guidelines, a candidate must meet stringent criteria for promotion, including three years of service as an assistant professor, a Ph.D. in a relevant discipline, a minimum of seven publications including three research papers in peer-reviewed or UGC-listed journals and experience in guiding at least one Ph.D. candidate. These requirements are designed to ensure merit-based promotions and maintain high academic standards. However, credible sources within the university allege that these rules have been bypassed in multiple cases involving promotions from assistant professor to associate professor and from associate professor to professor. Such actions not only undermine the credibility of the university but also compromise the quality of education and research.Faculty members and other stakeholders have expressed concerns about the impact of these irregularities on the university’s reputation and the morale of deserving candidates who adhere to UGC norms. “If the promotion process is not transparent and fair, it will discourage academic excellence and damage the institution’s integrity,” said a source. The competent authority of Tripura University is now under pressure to address these allegations. Educationists and activists have called for an impartial investigation and strict adherence to UGC guidelines to restore trust and ensure the betterment of university education.Tripura University’s administration has yet to respond publicly to these accusations. Meanwhile, demands for accountability and systemic reform continue to grow among the academic community and the public
