Indigenous Congress Submits Deputation in Protest Against CAA in Tripura

Agartala, May 20 — The Indigenous Congress submitted a deputation to the state’s Chief Secretary, J.K. Sinha, expressing their opposition to the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). Shabda Kumar Jamatia, Chairman of the Tripura Pradesh Indigenous Congress, emphasized that granting Indian citizenship to people from neighboring countries based on their applications would further marginalize the indigenous population. He raised concerns about potential claims to jobs, GDP, and areas under the Autonomous District Council (ADC). Despite the central government’s notification that the CAA would apply in ADC areas, uncertainties remain regarding future claims. The Indigenous Congress calls for the non-implementation of the CAA in the state, citing potential challenges for all castes, tribes, and communities.
