Agartala: Feb 04: On Monday, a joint operation by the Agartala Government Railway Police (GRP) and the Railway Protection Force (RPF) led to the seizure of approximately Rs 30 lakh worth of Eskuf syrup at Agartala railway station. The operation was carried out after receiving prior information about a potential drug smuggling attempt using a container vehicle. Upon stopping the vehicle, the police recovered 1,500 bottles of Eskuf syrup, which is often misused as a drug.

Nine individuals were arrested in connection with the smuggling operation. The arrested persons include Amit Kumar Srivastava from Bihar, Sintu Yadav from Uttar Pradesh, Suman Mia from Agartala's Abhaynagar area, Chhoton Deb from Kherpur, Akhtar Hossain from Teliamura, Rajiv Sutradhar from Agartala's Krishnanagar area, Bazarul Islam from Bishalgarh, Chan Mia from Teliamura's Rajnagar area, and Prasenjit Das from Ampinagar. All of them have been sent to court on police remand for questioning.

GRP Officer-in-Charge Tapas Das provided details of the operation and emphasized that the police are determined to crack down on drug smuggling in the region. This incident highlights the increasing use of Tripura as a corridor for drug trafficking, with the railway route being exploited by drug dealers. The authorities have raised concerns that without heightened vigilance, drug trafficking in Tripura could escalate. The police will continue their investigation, and it remains to be seen what further information emerges from the interrogation of the nine arrested individuals.
