Agartala: June 23: In a press conference held on Sunday, Leader of Opposition Jitendra Chowdhury expressed strong reservations about the legislative path taken by newly elected MLA Deepak Majumder. Chowdhury emphasized that assuming responsibility for one constitutional position without resigning from another is unacceptable. Majumder had taken the oath as an MLA without relinquishing his previous role, prompting calls for legal action.

During the same press conference, Chowdhury criticized the ruling party on several contemporary issues. He highlighted the acute shortage of work and food in the state, particularly affecting hill communities. The discontinuation of the Rural Employment Guarantee Act (Rega) in villages and outstanding payments for previous work exacerbated the situation. Additionally, school closures and mergers have caused distress among students and the general population.

Chowdhury also raised concerns about the condition of Vidyajyoti schools. Despite substantial student contributions from their monthly salaries, the schools lack essential services. The opposition leader called attention to these pressing issues, including unemployment, and demanded that the Election Department ensure peaceful panchayat elections.
