Agartala: Dec 07: Due to protests in Tripura over the attacks on Hindu minorities in Bangladesh, international trade through the Manu Land Customs Station in Kailashahar has been halted. Importers and exporters in Tripura are now seeking the help of the state government as they have no other options. They have written to the Chief Secretary requesting intervention to resolve the issue. The Exporters and Importers Association has demanded that international trade through the Kailashahar station be resumed, similar to how it continues through the Akhaura land port.

Following the arrest of Chinmay Krishna Das, a former ISKCON monk in Bangladesh, the Hindu Jagaran Manch had blocked international trade through the Manu Land Customs Station in Kailashahar by erecting barricades on November 27th, leading to a halt in the import of goods from Bangladesh. Hence, the Exporters and Importers Association has written to the Tripura Chief Secretary, urging immediate action to resolve this impasse.

The association has stated that the livelihoods of 100 families depend on this international trade. Workers at the Manu Land Customs Station have become unemployed, causing immense hardship to these families. Due to the halt in international trade, these families are facing starvation.

In the letter, the association has claimed that the Indian government has incurred a revenue loss of 25 lakh rupees since the halt in international trade on November 27th. Given this situation, there is an urgent need to take necessary measures to allow international trade through the Manu Land Customs Station in Kailashahar, similar to other land ports in the state and the country.
