Agartala: Dec 05: The Tipra Motha Party's opposition to the old Raj Bhavan's conversion into a five-star hotel seems to be more about diverting attention than genuine concern. According to the Leader of the Opposition, Jitendra Chaudhury, Tipra Motha is using this issue to distract the people of Tripura, especially the tribal communities.

Chaudhury pointed out that there are other wedding venues in the state, like Malancha Nivas and Manikya Court, which haven't raised any objections from Tipra Motha. This inconsistency suggests that their opposition to the old Raj Bhavan's conversion might be more about politics than preserving cultural heritage.

Moreover, Chaudhury accused Tipra Motha of making deals with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) before the Lok Sabha elections, but failing to deliver on promises made to the tribal communities regarding Greater Tipraland. This lack of follow-through on their commitments raises questions about Tipra Motha's true priorities.

The Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader emphasized that his party has no objection to a five-star hotel being built in Tripura, as long as it protects the interests of the tribal communities. However, he criticized the government for not following proper procedures, such as publishing advertisements, seeking opinions from cultural experts, and holding public hearings, before handing over the old Raj Bhavan to a private entity.
