Strong cultural ties between Assam and other Northeastern states: Governor

Agartala: Dec 02: A low-key event was held today at Raj Bhavan in Agartala to celebrate Assam State Day, with Governor Indrajit Sena Reddy inaugurating the ceremony. The Governor extended his heartfelt greetings to the people of Assam, highlighting the importance of celebrating the foundation days of different states, reflecting the Prime Minister's vision of "One Nation, One India."

This was Governor Reddy's second participation in the Assam State Day celebrations since assuming office as the Governor of Tripura. During his address, he commended Assam for its national and international prominence, pointing out the state’s rich biodiversity, tea gardens, archaeological sites, and thriving industries. He also underscored the cultural and heritage significance of Assam, with a special mention of Maharaja Chaolung Sukapha's pivotal role in establishing the state in the 12th century.

Governor Reddy further described Assam as the gateway to Northeast India's trade and expressed his hopes for strengthened cultural and economic ties between Assam and the other Northeastern states. He expressed confidence that Assam’s ongoing contributions to India’s growth would continue, leading the state towards greater prosperity.

On the occasion of Assam State Day, a message from Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya was broadcast, emphasizing the state's rich history and cultural legacy. The Governor of Tripura also honored 16 individuals of Assamese origin working in diverse fields, including education and medicine, with shawls and tokens of appreciation.

Speeches were delivered by Dr. Sindhu Podial, a professor at Tripura University, and Dr. Priyanshu Ranjan Barooah, Dean of Tripura Eklavya University, who spoke on the historical context of Assam’s formation and its cultural significance. The event concluded with a welcome address by the Governor's Secretary, U.K Chakma.
