Vidayajyoti schools doing good : CM

Agartala, Dec 2: Chief Minister Manik Saha on Monday said the state government has taken several steps to boost the education sector and empowerment of women.

The state has as many as 83,000 Lakhpati Didis who have substantially helped their family economically, he said while addressing after distribution of bicycles to girl students of class IX at Palli Manghal HS School in Khayerpur.He said the government has already reserved 33 percent women in government jobs and a total of 137 women are working with Tripura State Rifles (TSR).

Asserting that the Education department will distribute 23,000 bicycles to girl students of class IX in the entire state, the Chief Minister said the government plans to provide 100 scooty to the meritorious girl students.

Saha also highlighted the performance of Vidayjyoti Schools which are English medium and offer CBSE curriculum.

“Many point finger at the performance of Vidyajyoti Schools. A total of 125 government schools have been converted into Vidyajyoti schools in the state. I had a meeting with the officials over the performance of these schools. Now, they are doing good as far as results are concerned. The relatively weak students are being given special attention so that they could well in the examinations”, he said.

The Chief Minister said a Delhi team which visited the state recently had lauded the performance of Vidyajyoti Schools. Of the total 125 Vidyajyoti Schools, 96 government schools were Bengali medium while the rest were English medium schools.
