Tribute Paid to Literary Emperor Bankim Chandra Chatterjee on His Birth Anniversary

Agartala: June 26: On the occasion of the birth anniversary of literary emperor Bankim Chandra Chatterjee, a heartfelt tribute was paid at the Rabindra Shatabdi Bhavan in Agartala. Known for infusing patriotism into his literary creations, Bankim Chandra Chatterjee’s impact remains unparalleled, especially through his iconic song “Vande Mataram,” which played a pivotal role in India’s independence movement.

Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury inaugurated the tribute ceremony organized by the Department of Information and Culture. Alongside other dignitaries, he garlanded the portrait of Bankim Chandra Chatterjee, emphasizing the importance of preserving nationalism for future generations. The minister highlighted that celebrating the birth anniversaries of Indian thinkers fosters patriotism and contributes to the overall development of the country. The state government has actively promoted such celebrations since 2018, recognizing the value of passing down the life philosophies of freedom fighters, thinkers, and litterateurs to the youth.

Dr. Pradeep Kumar Chakraborty, Secretary of Information and Cultural Affairs, underscored the pride Bengalis should take in their culture. While English remains essential, efforts to cultivate interest in the Bengali language among children and grandchildren are crucial.

During the ceremony, distinguished speakers, including Subrata Chakraborty (vice-chairman of the state-based cultural advisor committee) and Manish Rudrapal (noted educationist), shared their insights. Tripura Central University student Bipasha Chakraborty delved into the life philosophy of Bankim Chandra Chatterjee, receiving felicitation from the department. A documentary on the literary emperor’s life and works was screened, followed by a cultural program featuring artists from various organizations.
