Congress Launches Indira Fellowship Programme to Empower Women in Politics

Agartala: Oct 14: The Congress party has introduced the Indira Fellowship Programme, aimed at increasing women’s participation in the political arena. This announcement was made by PCC President Ashish Kumar Saha during a press conference at the state Congress building today.

The event was attended by former state Congress president Piyush Kanti Biswas, state women’s Congress president Sarbani Ghosh Chakraborty, women’s Congress state observer Momtaz Begum, and other prominent leaders.

Saha emphasized that the Indian National Congress has been consistently working to encourage and empower women in various aspects of administration, including political representation.

Momtaz Begum highlighted that the Indira Fellowship Programme, initiated in memory of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, is part of the Congress’s ongoing efforts to promote women’s empowerment. She noted that Rahul Gandhi is particularly committed to ensuring greater participation of women in politics and nation-building, urging women to join the Shakti Abhiyan movement.

Begum further explained that the Indira Fellowship is a crucial element of the Shakti Abhiyan, designed to provide a platform for women. The Congress party aims to ensure that women receive 50% of resources, opportunities, and positions of power. She expressed her determination to play a key role in building a constructive society with women at the forefront of the Shakti Abhiyan.
