Agartala: Dec 19: In protest of controversial remarks made about Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, the architect of the Indian Constitution, by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the Congress party has called for his resignation and an apology to the nation. On Thursday evening, a protest march was organized from the Pradesh Congress Bhavan, led by Pradesh Congress President Ashish Kumar Saha. Saha condemned the remarks made by Amit Shah in Parliament on December 17, 2024, describing them as disrespectful and objectionable.
The Congress leader stated that Shah's comments had created a storm in Parliament, with strong protests from the National Congress Party and its workers. The Congress party has accused the government of plotting to abolish and alter the Constitution through such comments. Saha further emphasized that the remarks had deeply hurt the people of the country, prompting the demand for Amit Shah’s immediate resignation and an apology to the people.
Sudeep Roy Barman, a Member of the Legislative Assembly, also expressed his strong disapproval, stating that those who believe in the Constitution were deeply hurt by the Home Minister's comments. Barman pointed out that this statement highlighted the BJP's anti-Constitutional stance and revealed the deep-seated hatred within the party towards Dr. Ambedkar. He condemned the remarks, labeling them as offensive and part of a broader attack on the values upheld by the Indian Constitution.
At the end of the protest march, Congress workers burned an effigy of Amit Shah as a symbol of their strong condemnation of his remarks. The protest was part of the Congress party's ongoing efforts to challenge what they perceive as a continuous assault on constitutional values by the ruling BJP.
