Daughter Demands Justice for Deceased Mother, Accuses Father of Causing Her Death

Agartala: Dec 21: Standing at the morgue of GB Hospital, the daughter of a deceased teacher demanded justice for her mother, accusing her father, a teacher himself, of causing her mother's death. The 13-year-old girl claimed that her mother, Haimenti Singh, a government school teacher, had suffered greatly due to her father's actions. The accused, Mrinal Kanti Barman, also a teacher, is the girl's father.

According to the daughter, her parents had been married for 14 years. Over time, her father grew suspicious of her mother's alleged extramarital affair, which led to constant tension between the couple. Eventually, her mother was transferred to Kalom Khet Secondary School, while her father continued working at Ban Narayan Higher Secondary School. Their problems escalated, and the domestic strife became unbearable, with physical and mental abuse inflicted upon her mother daily.

On Thursday night, after yet another heated argument between her parents, the daughter went to sleep, only to be awakened around 3:30 AM by her mother's screams. She rushed to find her mother severely burned. Her father took the injured woman to Melaghar Hospital, but doctors referred them to GB Hospital, where her mother succumbed to her injuries on Friday night.

The daughter revealed that her father had been so distrustful of her mother that he would not allow her to cook. He would either prepare food himself or bring it from a hotel or his grandmother’s house. The constant abuse had taken a toll on her mother, leading to her tragic death.

The body was handed over to the family after an autopsy on Saturday afternoon, and the police have begun an investigation based on the complaint filed.
