Agartala: Dec 21: The Opposition Leader, Jitendra Choudhury, criticized the North Eastern Council (NEC) for its current focus on organizing events such as promotional festivals, fairs, and sports with the funds allocated for the development of the region. Speaking after a detailed discussion at a memorial meeting for J.V. Stalin at the CPI(M) state office on Saturday, Choudhury expressed his concerns about how the NEC funds are being utilized. He remarked that the NEC, which was established years ago to solve regional problems and promote the development of the North East, is now funding activities that do not contribute to substantial growth.

Choudhury further mocked the recent NEC meeting, stating that the Union Home Minister visited the state to "repair and weld" the faltering BJP organization. However, he claimed that such efforts would prove futile, as the people are prepared to challenge them. He also criticized the Home Minister, Amit Shah, asserting that no matter the position a person holds, their true thoughts will eventually be revealed. He recalled how the RSS, led by Shah, had opposed the national flag and the Constitution of India when they were first adopted. At that time, the RSS had called for a Constitution based on "Manosanskriti" (mental culture) and had even demanded its change.

Choudhury further condemned the BJP for its "artificial" gestures of placing flowers before Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s portrait, calling it a facade to gain votes, while the underlying intention was to undermine the Constitution and disrespect its architect. He also took a swipe at the suspension of the Parliament session, originally scheduled until December 25, accusing the RSS of fearing healthy, constructive debates. According to him, the BJP and RSS's true face is revealed through their actions, and Amit Shah is a prime example of this.
