Agartala: Dec 21: At the Bankers' Conclave held at Polo Tower in the capital on Saturday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah emphasized the importance of reviewing the guidelines from NABARD and the Reserve Bank of India regarding loan distribution in the North Eastern states. He pointed out that the region is poised to become India’s gateway for exports in the coming years. He highlighted the infrastructure challenges faced in the past due to changes in border demarcations with Bangladesh. However, after the constitutional amendments and the exchange of territories between India and Bangladesh, the region now has access to the Chittagong Port, opening up opportunities for exports through this vital port.
Shah further mentioned that in the last ten years, significant peace has been restored in the North East, with the region becoming increasingly self-reliant. The connectivity between the North East and the world has been strengthened, and work on infrastructure development is nearing completion. He added that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has visited the region 65 times, underscoring the importance the central government places on the region. Over 20 peace accords have been signed, leading to the rehabilitation of over 9,000 insurgents.
Additionally, Jyotiraditya Scindia, the Union Minister, noted that India’s economy, which was ranked 11th globally a decade ago, has now moved to 5th place under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi and Home Minister Shah. He projected that in the next two years, India would surpass Japan and Germany, ranking 3rd globally.
Tripura’s Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha also addressed the conclave, highlighting that central government schemes have been successfully implemented in the state. Every district now has banking services and ATMs, and the state has been recognized for its successful implementation of the Atal Pension Yojana.
