Eight Students Injured in Clash at Tripura School Amid Teacher Transfer Controversy

Agartala, July 2: A disturbing incident unfolded at Ananda Bazar Jiban Tripura Higher Secondary School in Dharmnagar, where eight students sustained injuries during a clash. The altercation occurred after the students blocked the Dharmnagar-Kailashahar main road to protest the transfer of a teacher. Local leaders allegedly attacked the students, leading to their hospitalization at Dharmnagar District Hospital.

The controversy revolves around the transfer of teacher Brajlal Nath from Kanchanpur to Ananda Bazar Jiban Tripura Higher Secondary School three months ago. Students expressed their appreciation for Nath’s special classes and assistance, which reportedly improved their academic performance. However, the school principal and certain members of the management committee disagreed with this sentiment. Consequently, Nath received a transfer notice within a short period.

On Monday, students initiated a protest, padlocking the school gate and staging a blockade in the Ananda Bazar area. Local leaders, including BJP leader Kanti Gopal Nath, Indra Mani Nath, Narayan Nath, and Debashish Nath, allegedly resorted to hooliganism. The students were compelled to disperse and return to their classrooms under threat of expulsion.

In an unfortunate turn of events, Debashish Nath physically assaulted some students, resulting in eight falling ill. The fire brigade personnel from Dharmnagar promptly rescued the unconscious students and transported them to North District Hospital.

Local journalists arrived at the scene but left due to safety concerns. The incident has sparked outrage among students and guardians, who intend to file a case against the involved leaders at Dharmnagar police station. As the panchayat elections approach, dissatisfaction grows over the actions of a few ruling party-affiliated hooligans in the Yubarajnagar assembly constituency. The incident highlights the need for responsible leadership and respect for democratic rights, ensuring that governance and education remain untarnished by violence.
