Elderly man killed, minor raped during puja days

Durga Puja festivities passed off peacefully across Tripura barring a couple of untoward incidents. According to reports, a minor girl was raped somewhere in Teliamura subdivision of Khowai district and a police sub-inspector lost his life in a freak road accident in North Tripura District. Apart from that, one person was killed at Khowai’s Ganaki area during the Puja days.A 12-year-old minor girl was raped in a remote tribal village of Teliamura sub-division. However, the cops arrested the accused shortly after receiving the complaint.According to available information, the victim, a minor girl from a remote village  of Teliamura, went out for Durga Puja pandal hopping with one of her close relatives on the night of Saptami. On her way back home, a young man named Sujit Debbarma started to stalk her in the Taimadou area of Chakmaghat in Khowai district. Taking advantage of the dark of the night, Sujit forcibly took the minor from the area adjacent to Tuimadhu School and allegedly raped her. The close relative with whom she went out for pandal hopping was reportedly assaulted by the assailant. However, on the night of Ashtami a written complaint was lodged with the Teliamura police station. Based on that, the police immediately arrested the accused person. Talking about this issue, the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Pannalal Sen said, "The police arrested the accused Sujit Debbarma within two to three hours upon receiving the complaint.
