Poachers kill jumbo, tusks removed, 500 kg flesh taken away

Unknown miscreants shot dead a full-grown elephant in Tripura’s Khowai district and looted ivory tusks and took away around 500 kg of flesh, officials said on Monday.The incident came after death of a male elephant after being struck by aFollowing reports of laying body a wild elephant, a forest department team rushed to Uttar Maharanipur under Promodhnagar RF on Monday morning and spotted a big size jumbo on the poll of blood, Sub Divisional Forest Officer (SDFO), Teliamura, Gaurav Wagh said.“We have not got ivory tusks. It appears it is a poaching case. We will investigate the matter as poaching case. An FIR has already been lodged with local police station”, he said.“We have seen gun shoot injuries on the forehead of the elephant. It appears tusks were removed and looted away after killing the jumbo. It is found the poachers have also taken away around 500 kg flesh from the jumbo”, Dr. Keshab Debnath, a veterinary surgeon, who performed the post mortem said.He added, the body of the elephant was buried after conducting post mortem following all the procedure.
