Police arrested on with illegal dry cannabis

Agartala: Nov 13: On November 13, Churaibari police conducted a search on a passenger bus traveling from Dharmanagar to Karimganj and arrested a man for smuggling marijuana. The incident occurred around 12:00 PM when the Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC) bus reached the police checkpoint at Churaibari. The police stopped the bus and carried out a search, during which they discovered 5.7 kg of dry marijuana hidden on the person of a passenger. The marijuana, valued at approximately ₹60,000 in the black market, was seized.

 

The arrested individual, identified as Munna Sharma (30) from Bihar’s Vaishali district, confessed to the crime. Sharma revealed that this was his second attempt to smuggle marijuana from Tripura to Bihar. He had purchased the marijuana for ₹4,500 per kilogram in the Khajur Bagan area of Agartala, intending to sell it in Bihar at a price of ₹10,000 per kg. During his first trip, he had successfully completed the smuggling operation but was caught during his second attempt.

 

Churaibari police station’s officer-in-charge, Khokon Saha, confirmed that a case has been filed under sections 22(B)(ii)(B) and 29 of the NDPS Act (47/24). Sharma will be presented in court for remand, and further investigations may reveal more details about the narcotics network.
