Agartala: Feb 11: The Tripura government has been working to support farmers through its rice procurement program. Recently, the state procured 17,497.109 metric tons of rice from 8,922 farmers across 19 districts, paying them 23 rupees per kilogram. This initiative has benefited farmers economically, with a total payment of 40 crore 25 lakh rupees, of which 35 crore 62 lakh rupees have already been disbursed.
According to Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, the government considers farmers the backbone of the country's food supply. Despite facing severe floods, farmers have shown resilience, and the government has been supporting them to recover and continue their work.
The government has assured that any delays in payment to farmers are due to technical reasons and will be resolved soon. The state's rice procurement program has seen a significant increase from last year's 16,000 metric tons to this year's 17,000 metric tons.
Tripura's government is committed to encouraging farmers and boosting crop production. The state has various schemes and programs in place, such as the National Food Security Mission, National Mission on Sustainable Agriculture, and Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana, to support farmers and improve agricultural productivity .
