District and Session Court of West Tripura found four accused persons guilty in the high-profile bank manager murder case that sent shockwaves across the entire state in August 2019.

After a lengthy trial, the Court pronounced all four accused individuals guilty under sections 302 (murder) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code, as confirmed by Samrat Kar Bhowmik, the special public prosecutor for the case.

Although the Court did not announce the sentences for the convicts, Bhowmik informed the media that the Court would deliver the sentences on Saturday, as per their notification.

The incident occurred during the night of August 3 and 4, 2019, when the victim and his friend were sitting in the Jackson Gate area of Agartala city. At around 11:30 PM, the convicted individuals arrived at the location and began urinating in public. When the victim, Bodhisatta Das, objected to their behavior, a physical altercation broke out, ultimately resulting in his murder.

During the trials, the Court recorded the statements of 56 witnesses. Notably, two witnesses, Basu Kar and Dr. Abhijit Dasgupta, turned hostile and retracted their initial statements. The Special Public Prosecutor stated that they had requested the Court to initiate perjury proceedings against them for their false testimony.

The Special Public Prosecutor further mentioned that the Court thoroughly examined all the presented evidence in the case before reaching a verdict and convicting the criminals.

The convicted individuals are Sumit Chowdhury, Sumit Banik, Sukanta Biswas, and Omar Sharif alias Soheb Miah. Notably, two of the accused individuals come from influential backgrounds, with Sumit Chowdhury being the son of a prominent jewelry chain owner and Sukanta Biswas having a background as a former policeman
