Agartala: Jan 04: On December 17, during a party meeting in Kailashahar, Opposition Leader Jitendra Chowdhury made strong remarks about the Congress party and MLA Birajit Sinha. In response, Birajit Sinha held a press conference in Kailashahar to address these claims. He was joined by several Congress leaders, including Md. Badarujjaman, the President of Unakoti District Congress, and Rudrendu Bhattacharya, General Secretary of Pradesh Congress.
Jitendra Chowdhury had stated that without an alliance between Congress and CPI(M) in the 2023 state elections, Birajit would not have won his seat. In response, Birajit Sinha firmly disagreed, asserting that he would have won regardless. He highlighted his six-time victory in Kailashahar, defeating CPI(M) candidates five times. Birajit also recalled the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, where Congress led in Kailashahar, even without an alliance with CPI(M).
Sinha criticized Jitendra Chowdhury for his comments, calling him arrogant, and expressed his disapproval of Chowdhury’s remarks at the December meeting, where former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar was sidelined during his speech. He also questioned Jitendra's political moves, pointing out that Chowdhury's victory in 2023 was marginal, winning by just a few hundred votes after contesting from a general seat instead of a reserved tribal seat.
Furthermore, Sinha accused Chowdhury of hypocrisy, highlighting his praise for CPI(M) in the Panchayat elections, despite their earlier lack of participation in Kailashahar. Birajit also raised concerns about Chowdhury's negative remarks about Congress and the BJP, accusing him of using double standards. In conclusion, Birajit Sinha stressed that his track record and the Congress's growing influence in the state would ultimately prove his point.
