CM hopes Centre to provide funds for post flood restoration works

Chief Minister Manik Saha on Tuesday said he has been in touch with the Centre to get funds for speeding up restoration works as the northeastern state witnessed worst ever floods in August and September.Altogether 38 people died while 17 lakh people were severely affected by the unprecedented floods. The state had suffered a loss of Rs. 15,000 crore in the floods.While speaking at a programme, the Chief Minister recalled the devastation caused by the unprecedented floods last year.“Of the total 12 rivers, 11 rivers had gone beyond danger level flooding three districts- Sepahijala, Gumati and South Tripura severely. We had to open 889 relief camps to provide shelter to the 4 lakh flood affected people”, he said. “Following request, the Centre had sent an inter ministerial team twice to the state to assess the damage caused by the floods. The floods caused damage to properties and infrastructure valued Rs. 15,000 crore. To take up immediate restoration works, we have spent Rs. 563 from the state’s own budget. I am in touch with the Centre to get funds for restoration works. I hope the Centre will provide assistance by maintaining procedure”, he said.Saha also stated how over 250 students who were stuck in Manipur due to ethnic trouble were airlifted to the state overnight
