Agartala: Mar 10: The Fourteen Gods temple in Tripura is at the center of a controversy sparked by the state government's plan to build a primary health center within its premises. The local community is upset because they weren't informed about the development, and former Tipra Motha chief Pradyot Kishore Deb Barma has raised concerns about preserving the temple's cultural significance.

Deb Barma emphasizes that the temple holds deep cultural significance for the people of Tripura, and any changes within its premises should be handled carefully to preserve tradition. He's pushing for transparency in development activities and consultation with local communities to avoid distorting cultural and historical values.

A meeting was held with local officials, including MLA Ratan Chakraborty, to address the issue, and another meeting is scheduled with community leaders to further discuss the matter. Chakraborty acknowledges that confusion arose due to the lack of prior information but assures that efforts are underway to resolve the issues.

The Fourteen Gods temple is a cherished symbol of tradition, and its history dates back to the Manikya Dynasty. It's dedicated to the worship of fourteen tribal deities, which were later incorporated into Hindu prayer and rituals. The temple's architecture is a unique blend of tribal and Hindu influences, reflecting the rich cultural heritage of Tripura.
