As the new film The Kerala Story - that claims to tell the story of Hindu and Christian women who were lured into joining the Islamic State (IS) group has stirred a huge controversy in India, on Saturday Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha along with his cabinet ministers, BJP MLAs and leadership watched the movie during a special screening at the Rupashi multiplex in Agartala.

Later speaking to reporters the CM said that every Indian should watch the film which is based on a true story of Kerala on ‘love jihad’ and how these women were converted and used for ICs activities in few Middle East countries.

He added that though the movie depicted the women of Kerala who ultimately landed into IC’s terror activities, perhaps it is also happening in other Indian states and so everyone should watch the movie and to be cautious as it is important for the unity and integrity of the country.

The Kerala Story - set in the southern state of Kerala - has been criticised by many opposition politicians, with some calling it propaganda and an attempt to destroy religious harmony.

However, the movie has received support from leaders of the governing Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), including Prime Minister Narendra Modi who praised it at a recent political rally. Some party members have also hosted screenings and distributed free tickets
